By Mike Luke It’s easy to forget the turmoil that enveloped Arizona athletics in the months before the school hired Dave Heeke as athletic director. Here’s a refresher: April 2015: Track and field coach Craig Carter was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was later convicted and sentenced to five years in prison. January 2016:...

Every year there is a player who emerges during Arizona Football Spring Camp and catches not only the eyes of coaches but the casual fan as well. This year, that player was freshman quarterback Noah Fifita. The diminutive signal caller is viewed by many as an underdog, but that is incredibly shortsighted as Fifita can make all the throws necessary...

Arizona Football’s 2022 Spring Game checked off most boxes generally reserved for an open-to-the-public glorified scrimmage. Much of the intrigue surrounding this new look Arizona defense surrounds new defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen and the play of a somewhat experienced secondary. Nansen said from day one he will run an aggressive defense and it certainly helps if the secondary can become a strength. Viper Christian Young certainly took his lumps last season but he has been one of the standouts so far through Spring, capable of covering tight ends and making big hits. Young’s versatility is certainly a plus but it will help him even more if he has a bit more of a defined role. Opposite Roland-Wallace, sophomore Treydan Stukes garners similar expectations. Lightly recruited out of high school, Stukes wasted no time last season making…

It’s impossible to project how many wins this UA football team is going to tally for the 2022 season but there is no doubt this squad will be significantly improved. And that improvement is across the board ranging from raw talent to overall size and strength. The talent uptick starts at the quarterback position where Washington State transfer Jayden De Laura has shown a quick release and a soft touch on the deep ball while displaying massive improvement over last season’s main options of Will Plummer and Gunner Cruz. De Laura is a little smaller than expected but he’s shown more than capable and figures to be Arizona’s quarterback as long as he is on campus. Freshman Noah Fifita has…

By any measurement the 2021-22 Arizona basketball season was a resounding success but there are certainly areas where the roster needs to improve upon and these deficiencies were brought to light in a big way in the Sweet 16 loss against the Houston Cougars. Arizona needs to get more athletic and springier across the board. This isn’t second guessing either, this is something that the Arizona coaching staff was well aware of heading into its last game of the season. It was easy to look at dynamic wings like Benn Mathurin and Dalen Terry and big man Christian Koloko and be fooled into thinking this was an athletic team. These three were the core of much of what Arizona wanted…
