December hasn’t been kind to the Phoenix Suns, but amidst their 5-9 record and mounting injury woes, Josh Okogie sure has been. In fact, he’s been nothing short of an X-factor handily exceeding his contract value during one of the team’s most trying stretches of the season. Landing in Phoenix on a veteran minimum deal, Okogie’s first brush with free…...

Damion Lee has rapidly become an indispensable piece of the Phoenix Suns bench.

By all accounts, Damion Lee wasn’t expected to be where he is right now. Lee said as much when he told Suns.com that, due to oxygen problems, he came out of the womb purple, and doctors were concerned whether he’d be all right. After going undrafted, suffering two torn ACLs — one in college, the other in the G League — might have been an unscalable obstacle for some players. Even joining a title contender like the Phoenix Suns on a veteran minimum contract, expectations were tempered. And yet, even through all of that adversity, Lee persevered, bringing him to this exact moment where he’s become an intrinsic piece of Phoenix’s second unit. “Everybody says, ‘I’m blessed, I’m thankful to…

Cam Johnson's knee injury will have many ripple effects on the Phoenix Suns.

One injury can change the trajectory of an entire season, and Cam Johnson’s right knee injury is no different for the Phoenix Suns. On Sunday morning, the team confirmed that the non-contact injury Johnson suffered in Friday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers was in fact a torn meniscus. The fourth-year forward will undergo surgery, and there is no timetable for his return. https://twitter.com/GeraldBourguet/status/1589303780327448578 Losing a starter on any title contender is a critical blow, but that’s especially true for a Suns squad that was already missing one starting-caliber player heading into the season. Even without the other minor, early-season injuries that are piling up, Phoenix is quickly running short on depth. “He’s a starter for us, so that’s always…

From Chris Paul to the free-throw discrepancy, which of the Phoenix Suns' concerns two games in are real, and which are flukes?

The Phoenix Suns looked poised to improve to 2-0 on the new season Friday night against the Portland Trail Blazers. Instead, they let a five-point lead with 1:40 to go in overtime shrivel up into a 113-111 defeat on the road. For the second game in a row, the Suns were torn up by an incredible individual performance from one of the NBA’s elite scorers. Damian Lillard led Rip City with 41 points on 12-of-25 shooting, while Devin Booker (33 points on 11-of-23 shooting) and Deandre Ayton (26 points on 12-of-22 shooting) carried Phoenix’s offense. However, because that production came in a loss, because Chris Paul didn’t wow people offensively, and because the bench, Cam Johnson and the team’s overall…

Here are five observations from the Phoenix Suns' wild comeback win over the Dallas Mavericks.

For the first 24 excruciating minutes, the Phoenix Suns’ 2022-23 season opener felt like a continuation of their Game 7 annihilation back in May. Shots weren’t falling, Luka Doncic was smirking, the Dallas Mavericks were up by more than 20 and hope felt like it had been drained from The Footprint Center itself. At one point, the Suns had battled...

What can the Phoenix Suns expect from new arrival Damion Lee?

After days of frantic speculation about a blockbuster addition, the Phoenix Suns added a certain wing with championship experience from his time on the Golden State Warriors. That’s right folks, Damion Lee is heading to the Valley. Who did you think we were talking about? According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the 29-year-old Lee will be joining the Suns on a one-year deal. Because the signing is already official on the NBA’s transactions page, and because deals worth the veteran minimum can be signed before the moratorium period ends, it’s safe to assume he’ll be playing on the vet minimum ($2.1 million, in this case). https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1543073019093983232?s=20&t=aAgnh6RdA310_pX6dhUFxQ Granted, those clinging to their phones waiting for news of a Kevin Durant trade to…
